Wind turbine installation is a high specialised process and involves a series of complex lifts to ensure these powerful creators of alternative energy are ready for successful commissioning and operation.
The whole wind turbine installation process can take weeks to complete as it requires a number of key steps including initial site survey works and the construction of foundations, before the subsequent installation of the tower, blades and turbine itself.
As successful installation requires special consideration to be given to the site location, boundary and its access points, as well as wider environmental constraints, it’s vital that thorough pre-planning work is undertaken to transport the turbine components safely to site and into situ.

A typical wind turbine installation requires a variety of specialist lifts before electrical installation, commissioning work and final connection.
Firstly the tower is erected using one of our specialist cranes. This may be lifted as a single piece or in a series of three to four 20-30m parts, which are then bolted together. Once the tower has been erected it is possible to lift the turbine into place. As the turbine weighs in excess of 50 tonnes and is a highly valuable piece of equipment, this requires a precise and controlled lift. The last stage is to lift the blades, which typically span more than 50m, to the top of the tower for connection.
